Why Karim Benzema must follow Cristiano Ronaldo and leave Real Madrid

Karim Benzema may follow Cristiano Ronaldo’s footsteps out of Santiago Bernabeu and join a Serie A club this summer. Reports are suggesting that former Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti is desperate to reunite with the French striker and that Napoli are preparing to launch a bid around €45million.

This seems like the ideal time for Benzema to leave the Spanish capital since he hasn’t been the most popular player in a long time. He arrived at the club back in 2009 and was a key figure for the club as they won domestic and continental competitions. However, the 30-year-old lacks consistency in front of the goal which has frustrated Los Blancos in more than a few instances.

A suitable move for both player and the club

New manager Julien Lopetegui must work towards a summer revamp ahead of the new season. Hence, he should avoid retaining players who blow hot and cold during the season, as it will hinder his progress with the team.

Furthermore, the Spaniard should look for players who can stay at the club for the next few seasons. By doing so, he can build a fresh squad and instil his system to keep Real Madrid at the top of club football legacy.

Benzema is on the wrong side of 30 and he has already shown signs of not being able to start games on a regular basis. He has a contract that runs until 2019 and the player currently earns wages in the region of £150,000-a-week. Hence, it will be a wise decision for him to leave Spain and look for opportunities elsewhere, mirroring what his former partner Ronaldo did.

The striker still possesses the quality to shine in other leagues, namely the Italian top-flight. Therefore, selling him will generate a decent fund for Madrid to spend elsewhere, instead of letting his contract run down by the end of the upcoming season.

Conclusion

For Benzema, he won’t get a better chance to leave the Spanish capital and look for time at a different club. The Frenchman revelled under Ancelotti and he could get back on track under the Italian, provided he agrees on a move to Napoli.
