Why Danny Batth must join Wolves’ arch-rivals West Brom this summer
According to a report by The Mirror’s live blog (13:31pm, Monday, July 2, 2018), West Bromwich Albion are interested in raiding bitter Midlands rivals Wolverhampton Wanderers to sign Danny Batth this summer.
Coincidentally, Wolves shattered numerous records in the Championship last season as they won the title, securing an automatic promotion to the Premier League. However, West Brom endured a terrible campaign in the top-flight, which saw them move down to the second-tier competition.
Nuno Espirito Santo has brought about a lot of positive changes at Wolves but in doing so, Batth has seemingly gotten iced out.
Over the course of the previous campaign, he could only muster 15 starts in the Championship, despite playing a key role for the club during their promotion from the League One. Now, it will be controversial for him to join his boyhood club’s arch-rivals but it goes without saying that it would be a great chance to revive his career.
Since West Brom have gotten relegated, a mass exodus of sorts is expected. And reliable centre-back Jonny Evans has already joined Leicester City. The Baggies still have Craig Dawson and Ahmed Hegazi at their disposal but both players are expected to leave as well.
Next season will be immensely crucial for the club because they must fight to get back to the top-flight. And to survive the cut-throat competition in the Championship, West Brom must reinforce their backline.
To that end, a move for the 27-year old certainly makes sense. He is experienced, solid and a reassuring presence at the back. Wolves must strengthen their squad ahead of the new term and if they bring in defensive reinforcements, Batth’s career for the West Midlands outfit will virtually come to an end.
He already has the likes of Connor Coady, Wily Boly and Ryan Bennett ahead of him in the pecking order and he must prioritize regular game time over everything else.
Since he is clearly not the first-choice at Wolves, Batth must consider moving to West Brom. The Baggies are in dire need of a player like him and he could work wonders to aid their quest of securing a promotion to the Premier League next season. Batth is tall, aerially proficient and boasts of ample Championship experience.

Furthermore, at 27 years of age, he has a lot to offer and moving to West Brom would provide him with a decent chance to kickstart his career. However, it remains to be seen if the player is open to the prospect of joining Wolves’ arch-rivals.
