Matej Vydra could be set for a return to West Bromwich Albion this summer. The talented striker had joined the club on a loan deal back in 2013 but now, he is widely recognized as one of the most successful players in the Championship.
He set the second-tier competition alight last season, scoring a whopping 22 goals to finish as the top scorer. But as expected, there are numerous clubs lurking around to acquire his services in the ongoing transfer window.
According to a report by Express And Star, West Bromwich Albion are interested in signing the exceptional striker this summer. The report further states that Vydra is estimated to cost in the region of £11million.
Vydra, who currently earns wages in the region of £35,000-a-week, must be convinced to join the Baggies since he could truly work wonders for the club as they get set to battle in the Championship. The report claims that Derby County are willing to let Vydra leave in order to raise funds to help new manager Frank Lampard assemble a new-look squad.
Now, Derby came quite close to securing a promotion to the top-flight last season but things fell through at the last moment. Meanwhile, West Brom failed to retain their Premier League status and must ply their trade in the Championship.
Both teams must aim to fight for a playoff spot at least but perhaps Vydra could prove to be an immensely beneficial for a newly-relegated side like West Brom this summer. Since making the drop, a good number of their attackers have been linked with exits.
Express And Star further claims that Jay Rodriguez could be interested in moving back to Burnley whereas Salomon Rondon could also be on his way out of the club. Hence, signing Vydra would represent a smart piece of business from West Brom’s side since they must focus on getting back to the Premier League at the end of next season.
One might argue that his loan spell with the Baggies was quite disastrous but it must be noted that the 26-year-old is a proven Championship star.
