Why signing Goncalo Guedes could bring in a world of benefits for Arsenal
According to a report by The Metro, Arsenal are interested in signing Goncalo Guedes this summer. The winger, who represented Portugal in the ongoing FIFA World Cup in Russia, failed to make an impact as Cristiano Ronaldo stole show yet again.
However, his performances for Valencia last season were incredibly impressive. And with that in mind, Arsenal manager Unai Emery could make a smart move by signing Guedes this summer.
Guedes is currently on Paris Saint-Germain’s books but he was loaned out to the Spanish outfit for the previous season. And after a series of remarkable displays with Valencia, it comes as no surprise that Arsenal are lurking for a move. Having scored 6 goals and provided 11 assists with Valencia last season, the player could be lured to North London.
After all, he is unlikely to receive adequate game time at PSG and at 21 years of age, that is a less-than-ideal situation for Guedes. Hence, he should be open to the prospect of moving to Arsenal. A wide midfielder by trade, Guedes is one of the most talented youngsters in Europe right now. He thrives out on the wings and boasts of an excellent blend of creativity and pace. Also, the youngster is known to be quite versatile with his skill-set.
Guedes is comfortable playing on either wing and is adept at playing as a striker. In addition to that, the Portuguese attacker can slot in as a No.10, meaning Emery could deploy him in numerous roles.
Prior to joining PSG, the player took the Primeira Liga by storm as he scored 5 goals and provided 9 assists in 39 appearances. Given his skills and potential, Guedes could be a fantastic new signing for Arsenal, who could truly utilize a player of his calibre.
His finishing skills are brilliant and his movement in the final third could create numerous scoring opportunities. With Alexis Sanchez out of the squad, Guedes could be a great option.

With the likes of Alexandre Lacazette, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Mesut Ozil and Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Guedes could fit right in and add a solid new dimension to Emery’s new-look Arsenal squad. PSG will demand a considerable fee for him. Nevertheless, Guedes could flourish under Emery’s guidance and his presence would offer a world of benefits to the Gunners.
