Why French sensation Benjamin Pavard must snub Arsenal to join Spurs
French international Benjamin Pavard has been linked with several Premier League clubs, including Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur. The 22-year-old Stuttgart right-back has performed exceedingly well in the World Cup and is exploring a move elsewhere to face new challenges.
Pavard is a flexible and athletic player who possesses the ability to play either as a right-back or a centre-back. He is tall and exhibits pace to run forward and put in threatening crosses. The 22-year-old is great at one-on-one situations as well, making him a well-rounded prospect. No wonder the North London clubs are after him.
However, let us take a look as to why Spurs should move for Pavard ahead of Arsenal.
Why Pavard to Spurs makes more sense
If we look through both North London rivals’ squads, they have two right-backs each for a managerial headache. But, with Arsenal signing Stephan Lichtsteiner this summer to back up first-choice Hector Bellerin, it doesn’t seem like they need another player with similar abilities.
For Spurs though, a possible move for Pavard might seem logical. Kieran Trippier has done tremendously well to establish himself as a first-choice right-back. He has even cemented a place in the England set-up in the ongoing World Cup. However, his deputy Serge Aurier didn’t have a comfortable first season in the English capital.
Furthermore, Tottenham excel at scouting young players and turning them into world-class professionals. So, they might be tempted to get this exuberant player and fabricate him into something special. Breaching Trippier’s place will be tough, but Mauricio Pochettino must allow Pavard the time to prove himself.

However, Pavard cannot expect the same at Arsenal under Unai Emery. The Gunners have clearly gone for experienced and high-pedigree players at the back, which will reduce their chances of signing Pavard in the first place. Although they are linked with him, the move will not make sense. Hence, Tottenham must capitalize and pursue the youngster this summer.
