According to Football expert Kevin Hatchard (h/t The Mirror), RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner is interested in joining Liverpool in the summer. The report also suggests that the Reds have a strong relationship with the Bundesliga outfit and that could ease the way for Liverpool to sign him.
Werner, 23, came through the ranks of Stuttgart’s youth system and joined Leipzig in the summer of 2016. He became an instant hit at the club as he scored 21 league goals in his debut season with Leipzig.
The forward has gone on to become one of the most lethal strikers in Europe. In 144 games for Leipzig, he has scored a staggering 87 goals and provided 37 assists. He has been instrumental in the club’s rise to the top and is a key member of the squad.
Meanwhile, Jurgen Klopp’s men are flying high in the Premier League as they haven’t been beaten so far in the top-flight.
The front three consisting of Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah have formed a lethal partnership and are almost unstoppable as evident from their tremendous goalscoring record together. Likewise, the Reds are strong in every other department as well.
However, Klopp has been quiet in the last two transfer windows, making very few signings and this summer would be the right time to bring in reinforcements. He must prioritize strengthening the attacking unit, where the trio has been consistently performing without a break. Hence, German speedster Timo Werner should be their top target in the coming transfer window.
The 23-year-old has grown from strength to strength in the last few years and his excellent performances have made him Germany’s first-choice centre-forward. In 35 games for Julien Nagelsmann’s side this term, Werner has found the back of the net 25 times and has also racked up 10 assists.
The diminutive attacker is a centre-forward by trade but he can also play on both sides of the pitch as a winger. His versatile nature would allow the manager to rotate his squad at the right time without any hindrance in their performance.
Werner’s average of 4.2 shots per game has helped him score plenty of goals and if he continues that for Liverpool, he would be the player to provide them with the extra goals.
At 23, the German international has a proven track record and would be the right choice to lead Liverpool’s attack in the future. He is known for his pace and could lead the English outfit to success if he is used properly, as evident from his goalscoring record so far. Therefore, Liverpool must lure him to Anfield as early as this summer.
