Why Tottenham cannot let go of Tanguy Ndombele next season

According to the Daily Mail, Tottenham ace Tanguy Ndombele has opened up about a move to French giants PSG in the future. The midfielder is said to have spoken with Kylian Mbappe regarding a move. Even Barcelona were credited with an interest in the 24-year-old last summer.

Tottenham are already a bit low on midfield numbers

After the summer transfer window, Tottenham managed to boast of a squad with good depth in every position. Spurs roped in Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg from Southampton in the summer to bolster their midfield.

The Dane has proven himself to be a massive bargain for the Lilywhites, establishing himself as a key cog in Jose Mourinho’s engine room. He has played all of the club’s games in the PL so far this season and has all the makings of evolving into an excellent long-term servant in North London.

However, cut to the present and Spurs are looking at reduced options in midfield. Dele Alli has been reduced to a bit-part role while Gedson Fernandes was allowed to leave, the club cutting short his loan spell.

Moussa Sissoko is also set to turn 32 in August while Giovani Lo Celso has struggled to produce his best form in the Premier League. Even Harry Winks has struggled for game time this season.

No way should Spurs allow the Frenchman to leave

It is understandable that one may want to play for their hometown club. Ndombele is from the Paris region and it’s easy to see why these links to PSG are surfacing. However, the fact remains that Spurs cannot allow the midfielder to depart the club.

Ndombele is just in his second season in London and after a period of adjustment, he has come good in recent months. Spurs may not be doing so well in the league but Ndombele has kept up his all-action displays from the midfield. Letting him go, especially now that he has become a vital part of the side, would be imprudent.

Ndombele has regularly held talks with France compatriot Mbappe regarding a move but Spurs need to somehow convince the 24-year-old to stay. They are already looking at a sub-par season in the league but they need to make him believe that his future lies in London and not PSG.
