Why Tottenham handing Troy Parrott a new contract is a good move
According to Evening Standard, Tottenham have announced that youngster Troy Parrott has signed a new three-year contract with the club.
The report also suggests that Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund were interested in Parrott but he has been rewarded with a pay rise. He has committed to the club until the summer of 2023.
The North Londoners rejected loan offers for the striker from Charlton Athletic and Dutch side ADO Den Haag. He has been included in Tottenham’s Champions League squad for the knockout stages, as per the report.
Parrott, 18, joined Tottenham’s youth ranks from the Irish side Belvedere at the age of 16. He has been in excellent form for the youth and reserve sides this season.
The Irish international has scored 6 goals in 4 UEFA Youth League games, making it 10 goals for this season. The striker made his senior debut against Colchester United in the EFL Cup and featured in the Premier League against Burnley for the last five minutes of the game.
Hence, the new contract is a smart move by the club. Spurs have been deprived of strikers in their ranks, often leaving Harry Kane to lead the line on his own.
In fact, they have struggled throughout the season without a proper back-up for England’s number one striker. After deciding to sell Vincent Janssen and Fernando Llorente last summer, then-Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino failed to bring in reinforcements up front.
The failure to sign a striker and the injury to Kane has put them in a bad situation, leaving the manager without a natural centre-forward.
As a result, Heung Min-Son and Lucas Moura have spearheaded the attack alternatively. Therefore, the new deal for Troy Parrott does come as great news. The 18-year-old is capable of playing as a second striker and also on the left side of the attack.

Verdict
Now that Tottenham have handed a new contract to the teenager, they must give him chances regularly and use him as much as possible in the absence of their talisman.
