With less than three weeks left for the transfer season to end, Tottenham Hotspur are yet to secure a signing. Desperate Spurs fans are hoping for some announcement from the club with the new Premier League season just around the corner. Despite rival clubs embarking on signing sprees, Mauricio Pochettino seems to be taking things slow.
Spurs’ London rivals Fulham have secured a two-year loan deal for Andre Schurrle from Borussia Dortmund and it goes without saying that it is a brilliant move by the club. However, Tottenham should have beaten the Cottagers to sign the talented German.
Having consecutively finished in the top-three in previous seasons, the upcoming term will be Tottenham’s best chance to lift the Premier League title. To that end, signing Schurrle could have been a shrewd move.
Many fans and critics consider Schurrle as someone who is a shadow of his former self. But let’s not forget that he was an integral part of the Chelsea attack during his two-year stint with the London club. With the Spurs strike force already consisting of Harry Kane and Son Heung-min, the addition of Schurrle as a backup striker would have strengthened the squad further.
Now let us take a look at the reasons why Tottenham should have signed Schurrle.
A Player With A Decade Of Experience
The 27-year-old has a decade of experience playing in some of the toughest leagues in the world. The German international has notched up over 50 appearances for his country and 300 appearances in club football. Having already won the Premier League title along with Chelsea in the 2014/15 campaign, his exploits on the green lush could have improved Tottenham’s game to a great extent.
Strength
Schurrle is considered as one of the best dribblers and finishers of the game. He has scored 78 goals in club football and 22 for the German national side. In fact, he is well-known for his counter-attacking displays on the field. His fitness levels and work rate could have given Tottenham’s opponents a run for their money on any given day.
A World Cup Winner
Schurrle will always be remembered for playing a prominent role in Germany’s historic 2014 World Cup title triumph. He scored three goals for Germany and also played a key role in their iconic 7-1 win against Brazil. Furthermore, it was Schurrle’s crucial cross that set up Mario Gotze’s winner against Argentina in the 113th minute, gifting Germany their fourth World Cup title.

Verdict
Despite a dip in form lately, Schurrle would have been an asset for Tottenham. Nevertheless, there is no point crying over spilt milk and Spurs must look for options elsewhere.
