Why Pervis Estupinan would be a great investment for Tottenham
As per The Express (h/t Daily Star), Tottenham are interested in signing Watford left-back Pervis Estupinan, who currently plies his trade with Osasuna on loan.
However, Spurs will have to face competition to secure the services of the youngster as he is one of the most wanted left-backs in Europe. The report suggests that Chelsea and Barcelona are also eyeing a move for the Ecuadorian, who has excelled on his loan spell.
Profile
Born in Ecuador, Estupinan rose through the ranks of LDU Quito’s youth system and joined Udinese in the summer of 2016. However, he was immediately sent on loan to Granada and was signed by Watford in the following summer. But he hasn’t featured in a single game for the Hornets yet, having been on different loan spells.
After excelling with Mallorca in the 2018/19 campaign, Estupinan was sent on a two-year loan spell to Osasuna last summer. In 36 La Liga games last season, he managed to score 1 goal and 6 assists, and has been in sensational form.
He seems to be one of the best young talents in Europe and the report claims that he is on course to become of the finest left-backs of the game. Thus, the Lilywhites should make a move for him at the earliest.
Estupinan – A future left-back for Tottenham
At the moment, Tottenham have two left-backs in their ranks. Ben Davies has done a decent job for Jose Mourinho’s side since his return from injury. However, Danny Rose’s future at the club remains uncertain. The English veteran spent the second half of the last season on loan with Newcastle United but has returned to Tottenham.
Youngster Ryan Sessegnon, who deputized in the absence of Davies earlier in the season, has gone without game time in the latter stages. Moreover, he has been linked with a move away from the club and his departure could leave them with limited options at left-back.
In that regard, Estupinan would be a smart move for the future. The youngster has shown immense potential in La Liga this season despite his tender age. The fact that he is wanted by Barcelona and Chelsea shows his abilities. He could be a future star at the back for Tottenham if he develops well.
The one-cap Ecuadorian international could be a replacement for Rose, who has entered the final year of his contract. Estupinan is just 22 and has a lot of room for development under Mourinho. He could go on to represent them in the long run. For now, he can be used as an understudy to Davies.

Verdict
With a lack of quality at the back, it is clear that Tottenham are in dire need of full-backs. And Estupinan could be a useful addition for the future. He has been brilliant at both ends of the pitch and investing in the Ecuadorian could pay off well for the North Londoners in the future.
