Why Tottenham should keep their eyes off Jack Grealish

According to The Athletic (h/t Birmingham Live), Tottenham are interested in signing Aston Villa ace Jack Grealish in the summer.

Grealish, 24, has emerged as one of the hottest properties within the country after his impressive performances for Villa in the past few years. He has been linked with a move to several clubs and is also on the cusp of earning a call-up to Gareth Southgate’s England national squad.

Meanwhile, Tottenham have struggled to make it into the top 5 of the league table despite a change in management. They are currently 8th in the league table after failing to win any of their last three league games.

Jose Mourinho has found it difficult to put out a strong team as many of his key players have been injured at regular intervals. Harry Kane’s absence has put them in all sorts of troubles as they have failed to score enough in the past few months.

The attacking unit has not been at its best in crunch situations, leading to their downfall. The likes of Dele Alli, Lucas Moura and Erik Lamela have also failed to impress in the absence of big names. Midfielder Moussa Sissoko was also out of action for a long time due to injury and South Korean international Heung Min-Son also underwent knee surgery.

Spurs have also lacked creativity throughout the season and their midfield has also not been strong enough to carry the team forward. Therefore, the manager should look to bring in reinforcements to strengthen the attacking unit and the midfield to make the team challenge for trophies next season.

However, making a move for Aston Villa star Jack Grealish would not be a suitable idea for the club. Though Grealish has been in top form this season, scoring 7 goals and providing 5 assists in the Premier League, he must not be prioritized by Spurs solely because of his off-field antics.

In a recent incident, his immaturity peaked when he was found ramming into three other cars with his Range Rover in a time when the country was under lockdown (h/t Daily Mail).

He is also known for his party life, which cannot be accepted as a professional, especially in the footballing world. He has been under the limelight for wrong reasons and with Mourinho in charge of Tottenham, it’s hard to imagine how Grealish would survive without problems.

Verdict

Though he may be one of the most promising players, Tottenham should keep their eyes off the Englishman for his behaviour. It may also lead to various problems within the squad, who are supposed to be focusing on the game. Thus, avoiding a move for Grealish would be a better choice.
