Why Tottenham should make a move for Ivan Perisic
According to Brighton and Hove Independent, Tottenham have set their sights on Inter Milan forward Ivan Perisic, who currently plies his trade with Bayern Munich on loan.
Perisic, 31, who came through the youth ranks of Hajduk Split, played for clubs like Borussia Dortmund and Wolfsburg before moving to Inter Milan in 2015. In 143 appearances for the Serie A side, he scored 40 goals and provided 37 assists before Bayern Munich signed him on loan last summer.
The Croatian has been one of the most underrated footballers. He has been playing at a higher level for a long time and has also been an integral member of the national side. He helped Croatia reach the finals of the last World Cup and also scored in the 4-2 loss to France.
He has featured in over 400 games at the highest level and has been capped 88 times for the national team.
Meanwhile, Tottenham have managed to rise higher up the table after an abysmal start to the season that cost Mauricio Pochettino his job. The arrival of Jose Mourinho helped the Lilywhites start in a brilliant way but as the season progresses, they appear to have lost their way.
Despite managing to reach the 6th position in the league table, Mourinho’s side have failed to perform consistently. While the defensive unit has not held the line tightly, they have faced limitations in the attacking unit.
Harry Kane’s long-term absence has put them in the worst state and they have been unable to replace the talisman. Lucas Moura has been leading the line instead but the Brazilian has failed to deliver in demanding situations.
They have fallen short of numbers on the wings with Erik Lamela being prone to injury. Therefore, the manager has to address the situation at the earliest. He needs to bring in an experienced campaigner and Ivan Perisic would be a viable option.
The 31-year-old has been a regular starter in the last four years for Inter Milan and he has been impressive with Bayern too. In 22 games across all competitions this season, he had racked up 5 goals and 8 assists before being sidelined with an ankle injury.
Predominantly a left-winger, Perisic is capable of playing on the opposite side and in the attacking midfield role. Tottenham have struggled since the departure of Christian Eriksen and therefore, the Croatian could also be used to construct their games.
The former Wolfsburg man has immense experience under his belt and that would pay off handsomely for the Lilywhites. He has been excellent on the left-wing over the past few, providing enough assists for his team.

After having signed Steven Bergwijn in January, it is necessary for Tottenham to add depth to their attacking options. And Perisic’s qualities would be perfect for the club – provided he is able to replicate the same form he has shown in the past few years.
