According to Football Insider (h/t Football.london), former Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino wants to bring Hugo Lloris to PSG. The newly appointed PSG manager wants to raid his old club for Lloris and wants to offer him a lucrative deal for a four-year period. The veteran shot-stopper has 18 months left on his current deal and a transfer looks likely in the future.
Since 2012, Hugo Lloris has stood between the sticks for Spurs for more than 8 seasons and it’s safe to say he has done a good job. Amassing close to 350 games for the club, the French custodian has seen it all, with a Champions League final medal to boast of. While trophies have been hard to come by, Lloris has been ever-present for the team.
The 34-year-old has been a faithful servant of the club for close to a decade now and has been with the club through thick and thin. He is yet to win a trophy with the club but has never contemplated leaving for another team.
As a player, he has kept high standards in goal and only allowed the rare bad performance, for which fans can forgive him. A solid shot-stopper who is also decent with the ball at his feet, Spurs have benefited a lot from his miraculous saves time and again.
At 34 years of age, it still doesn’t look like the French shot-stopper is slowing down. Pochettino knows what Lloris is and he isn’t chasing his former player without reason. He knows what the goalkeeper can bring to the team.
While it would be blasphemous to even think of letting Lloris leave, it sounds even more absurd when you realise they don’t have an able backup to take over. Joe Hart came in as a temporary fix while Paulo Gazzaniga has rarely shown flashes of brilliance.
All things considered, Spurs cannot allow their captain to leave for PSG. He is a valuable member of the side and has bags of experience in the top-flight and international arena. Tottenham must do all they can to keep a hold of Lloris for the time being.
