Why Tottenham should plot a move for Serhou Guirassy
According to Daily Star, Tottenham have been credited with a long-term interest in French forward Serhou Guirassy. The report also suggests that Tottenham would face tough competition from Chelsea to secure his services as the Blues are also eyeing a move for him.
Jose Mourinho’s men have lacked confidence throughout the season and their inconsistency has been highlighted in the last few months. They started off brilliantly when the Portuguese manager took charge but have failed to carry the momentum forward.
Their losses against Chelsea and Wolves consecutively has put them 5 points away from fourth-placed Chelsea. With the season coming to an end, their hopes of qualifying for the Champions League have taken a hit as they slipped to 7th position in the league last weekend.
Their defence has not been up to mark and when their attacking unit looked to gain the much-needed boost, Harry Kane and Son Heung-Min’s injury shattered their hopes of doing better. Kane has been out of the team for a long time and Mourinho has struggled to find a replacement for the centre-forward position.
After selling Fernando Llorente and Vincent Janssen last summer, the Lilywhites failed to bring in a backup for the English ace. Kane led the line brilliantly but after his injury, Tottenham have found it hard to score at regular intervals.
Therefore, to avoid such limitations, Mourinho must bring in fresh faces before the start of the new campaign. They need to have a full-strength squad and to do that, they must bring in a striker who is not only capable of playing a supporting role but also be able to lead the line whenever necessary.
In that regard, Serhou Guirassy would be a good option and Mourinho can do well with an in-form striker.
The 23-year-old came through the youth ranks of Stade Lavallois and joined Bundesliga side FC Koln in 2016. Last summer Ligue 1 outfit Amiens signed him and he has since then been an integral part of the squad.
Despite Amiens enduring a poor season, Guirassy has been in fine form. He has scored 8 goals for the club and has bettered his goal tally from last campaign and is the club’s top scorer this season.
Adding the Frenchman to Mourinho’s squad would be a huge boost as they don’t have anyone to support Kane. Brazilian Lucas Moura has been leading the line in recent weeks but has failed to deliver as he seems to be comfortable only on the right side of the pitch.
Guirassy has the ability to transform into a lethal striker and he could be of good value to the team if he is able to replicate his red-hot form at Tottenham.

Verdict
At 23, it would be the right time for the former Koln man to step into the Premier League and Tottenham should be able to enjoy his best days, which is yet to come. And this would be a platform for Guirassy to establish himself.
Therefore, Tottenham should move ahead in the race and lure the striker to North London ahead of other teams.
