According to Fabrizio Romano (h/t Football.london), Nikola Milenkovic is one of the names that is of interest to Tottenham. It has been said that the defender is keen on an exit from Fiorentina and with 18 months remaining on his contract, Spurs are keeping tabs on the situation.
Tottenham roped in Joe Rodon from Swansea City before the domestic deadline to bolster their centre-back ranks following the departure of veteran Jan Vertonghen on a free transfer. The Welshman isn’t quite the finished article but his inclusion has provided some much-needed depth to Mourinho’s options at the back.
Rodon’s impressive display in the goalless draw against Chelsea clearly underlines his potential. But given that he’s still relatively young, Tottenham would be better off gradually phasing him into the mix.
With Toby Alderweireld set to turn 32 later on in the campaign and also battling with injuries, Spurs ideally need to bring in another readymade option in that department. More so, considering that Davinson Sanchez has been far too inconsistent and Eric Dier has his fair share of limitations.
Nikola Milenkovic ticks all boxes to come through the door at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium as a potentially solid addition to their flailing backline. The Serbian star has made a massive impact in Italy. And he looks than capable of replicating his consistency in English football.
Mourinho needs top-quality players in all areas of his squad to steer the club to silverware in the coming seasons and Nikola Milenkovic can make a massive difference.
The Serb still potentially has his best years ahead of him at 23, meaning that he would be well worth an outlay for Tottenham. He certainly looks like an upgrade on the current defensive roster at Spurs. While Milenkovic may not be their first choice, he should be the one Spurs turn to.
