Why Tottenham should sign Aston Villa star Ezri Konsa

According to The Athletic (subscription required), Tottenham are believed to be keeping an eye out for Ezri Konsa.

As Ilkay Gundogan twisted and turned to leave Davinson Sanchez flat on the ground, it was an indication that Spurs’ defence had failed miserably a second time within the week. Pep Guardiola’s side went on to hammer Spurs by three goals.

Prior to that game, Everton slotted past 5 goals en route to an FA Cup knockout win over Spurs. Their defence had also failed to deal with teams such as Liverpool, Brighton, and Chelsea.

Sanchez, Alderweireld and Dier have all failed to deliver on a consistent basis and that has led to the club slipping down the league table. Joe Rodon was signed last summer but he looks more of a future prospect.

The bigger picture here is that Aston Villa have conceded just 24 goals in the Premier League this season so far and Konsa has certainly played a big part. Ezri Konsa has already started to deliver on his potential and still has his best years ahead of him at 23. The centre-back has shown strong signs of progress over the past 12 months.

At just 23, he comes with vital Premier League experience and age on his side. Given that Liverpool are also said to be in the running for him (h/t The Athletic), Spurs would be wise to move ahead of their rivals.
