Why Tyrone Mings would be a good addition to Leeds United

According to Football Insider (h/t Leeds Live), former Leeds striker Noel Phelan has urged the Whites to sign Aston Villa defender Tyrone Mings in the summer.

Mings, 27, came through the ranks of Southampton and Bristol Rovers’ youth system before moving to Bournemouth in 2015. However, after years of struggling for game time at the South Coast, he was signed by Villa in 2019.

He was instrumental in Villa’s promotion to the Premier League and has been a regular member of the squad since his arrival. Despite the club’s poor performance, Mings has been in fine form and has been impressive in the past two years.

Meanwhile, Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa has done an excellent job in guiding his team to the top of the Championship table. They have been excellent in all the departments and are hoping for automatic qualification to the Premier League.

The attack has scored 58 goals so far and has been brilliant upfront. At the same time, the defensive unit which consists of Ben White, Liam Cooper and Gaetano Berardi has done a wonderful job for the Whites.

They have conceded just 30 goals, which is the best defensive record in the Championship. However, Leeds could face a problem if they get promoted to the top-flight. They have limited centre-backs in their ranks and White is on loan from Brighton. Whereas Berardi is out of contract in the summer.

Therefore, the Championship side must bring in reinforcements to their backline and Villa’s Tyron Mings would be a good choice for the promotion-hopefuls. The 27-year-old has been consistent in the past few years. He has featured in 23 games for the Villans this term and has gone from strength to strength in recent days.

Mings’ impressive performances also earned him a call-up to England’s national squad as he made his debut last October. He could be a vital cog in Leeds’ defence and has the ability to succeed. He would certainly add depth to Bielsa’s squad

The English international still has a lot to offer at the highest level and the Whites must be able to get the best out of him. He can be a leader at the back and his qualities can never be underestimated.

Verdict

Bielsa should make sure that he has got the required depth in every area before getting into the top-flight. If they are to survive and prosper, Leeds have to bring the best and Mings would give them the much-needed confidence at the back.

Therefore, they should make a move for the former Cherries man and lure him to Elland Road in the summer.
