According to La Nazione (h/t Daily Mail), Leeds United have been interested in Valentin Eysseric of Fiorentina. The player could be surplus to requirements in Italy if their manager can bring in replacements. Along with Eysseric, Erik Pulgar is on Leeds’ radar.
Valentin Eysseric is a 28-year-old French midfielder who plays for Serie A side Fiorentina. A youth product of AS Monaco, Eysseric spent time at Luynes Sports, Aix Universite and Aubagne FC before his Monaco stint. In 2011, he was promoted to their senior side but was sent on loan to OGC Nice in 2012 for one season.
That deal was made permanent in 2013. Despite going on a loan spell to Saint Etienne, he made over 100 appearances for Nice. Fiorentina signed him in 2017 but he spent the last season on loan at Nantes and Hellas Verona.
In 38 appearances for Fiorentina so far, Eysseric has scored once and assisted twice. Eysseric has featured a couple of times for the France youth teams but is yet to play for the senior side.
The Whites have had a rather mixed season so far in the Premier League. They have won 7 games and lost 8, while drawing two. It was only recently that they got back to some form after wins against Burnley and West Brom.
Their squad looks adept in most departments but there seems to be some chinks when it comes to creative midfielders. Tyler Roberts and Pablo Hernandez are their only two players in that position while Rodrigo Moreno has been shoehorned there this season.
Roberts is too young to be relied on. Hernandez is running on his last legs at 35 and Rodrigo is a makeshift attacking midfielder. It is clear that an established playmaker is needed at Elland Road and Valentin Eysseric could be their man.
A capable attacking midfielder who can also play in various other positions, the Frenchman can be a real asset for the Whites at this point of the season. While he may not boast of great numbers, he could be a handy player to have around to add depth and competition in the squad.
