Alberto del Rio had kidnapped and sexually assaulted his ex-girlfriend which saw him get arrested and indicted
Former WWE Champion and MMA star Alberto del Rio was inducted by a jury over one count of aggravated kidnapping and multiple counts of sexual assault in Texas (Bexar County District Attorney’s Office), reports ESPN.
Del Rio, who was one of the top stars on WWE has had run-ins with the law in the past too. He was engaged to former WWE star Paige but the pair split in 2017.
The 43-year-old was previously married to Angela Velkei and the pair have three children. However, the pair split up in 2016.
The report claims that the kidnapping and sexual assault incident took place on 3 May and he was arrested on 9 May.
Del Rio, real name Jose Rodriguez Chucuan, was accused of tying down his ex-girlfriend and sexually assaulting her.
Other reports claimed that Del Rio had also broken her phone and laptop, forced her to strip and then dance for him.
Reports added that Del Rio also hit his ex-girlfriend on the head several times. He even threatened to take his ex’s child away if she told anyone of this assault.
Del Rio was released on bail a day later for $50,000. However, the Grand Jury indicted him 9 October, and ESPN adds that Del Rio could be looking at 99 years in prison.
The 43-year-old has fought on several promotions apart from WWE with runs on Impact Wrestling too.
He is a former Money in the Bank and Royal Rumble winner too. Del Rio is a four-time WWE Champion (WWE and Heavyweight title) while he is a two-time US Champion too.
Del Rio also did his bit in the MMA circuit and holds a record nine wins and six losses. He even fought the legendary Tito Ortiz in his last clash but ended up on the losing side.
