Why Watford should make a move for Kwadwo Asamoah
As per FCInternews.it (h/t Daily Mail), Watford have entered the race to sign Inter Milan left-back Kwadwo Asamoah in the summer.
Asamoah, 32, has played his entire career in Italy, starting with Torino and Udinese before moving to Juventus in the summer of 2012. He had a successful six-year spell with the Old Lady, winning several trophies including 6 consecutive Serie A titles.
He then moved to Inter Milan in the in 2018 and was a regular member last season. But he has fallen down the pecking order under Antonio Conte this term. As per the report, he could be on his way out of San Siro in the summer, with Watford and Fenerbahce interested in him.
Watford’s season so far
The Hornets have struggled throughout the season. Despite making little progress under Nigel Pearson, they have won just 1 of their last 7 league games. They are currently 17th in the league table, level on points with relegation-threatened Bournemouth.
One of the major reasons for their inconsistency is the lack of stability in their backline. Apart from Christian Kabasele in the heart of the defence, no one has put in a string of solid performances. And it is clear that Watford need a centre-back to bolster their defensive unit.
Apart from a centre-back, Pearson should also bring in reinforcements to the full-back position. On the left side of the defence, Adam Masina and Jose Holebas are the two players available at the manager’s disposal. Daryl Janmaat and Kiko Femina are the right-backs in the squad.
Holebas started regularly earlier in the campaign but failed to nail down a spot. The 26-year-old Masina has taken his place, leaving the Greek man on the bench. Holebas is already 35 and thus, the manager should look to bring in a replacement.
In that regard, Inter Milan’s Asamoah would be a good choice for the club. The Ghanaian has played at a higher level for many years and has made nearly 350 career appearances. His experience would be a huge boost to the squad.
The Ghana international’s trophy-laden career is proof of his ability and he still has the energy to play at a higher level. His inclusion to the squad would also bring healthy competition and some much-needed depth to Pearson’s side.
