Why West Ham should make a move for Serhou Guirassy in the summer

According to The Sun, West Ham United are leading the race to sign SC Amiens star Serhou Guirassy among a host of Premier League clubs.

Serhou Guirassy, 23, came through the youth ranks of Stade Lavallois before joining Lille in 2015. He moved to Amiens last summer and has enjoyed an impressive campaign with the club, scoring 8 goals and providing 1 assist in 22 Ligue 1 games.

The Frenchman’s performances have also caught the eyes of Brighton and Hove Albion and Tottenham, as per the report.

Meanwhile, West Ham are currently in all sorts of troubles as they are 18th in the league standings. A possibility of getting relegated to the Championship looks real. Darren Randolph, Tomas Soucek and Jarrod Bowen were signed to bolster the squad but nothing has gone the Hammers’ way.

The 3-2 loss to Liverpool on Monday has further dampened their hopes of survival in the top-flight. One of the problems West Ham have faced is the lack of goals. They have scored only 32 goals in 27 league games.

Summer signing Sebastien Haller has been poor in front of goal, scoring just 6 in 25 games. Albian Ajeti was signed last summer as a backup for Haller but the Swiss international has failed to make it beyond 8 games. He is yet to open his account at the London Stadium.

Wide players like Felipe Anderson, Michail Antonio and Andriy Yarmalenko have failed to render service to the two strikers. They have performed below the standards and are struggling to make an impact. Anderson, who enjoyed a brilliant debut season in London, has scored just one goal and provided 4 assists in 20 league games.

Hence, with a lack of quality and competition in the squad, their performance has been below par and the manager should look to bring in reinforcements to the attacking unit. And the signing of Serhou Guirassy would make sense for the Londoners.

The 23-year-old has taken his game to the next level and was at his best against the French champions in the 4-4 draw two weeks back. He scored 2 of the team’s goals and helped them earn a point. He has been crucial for his side, scoring winning goals against FC Metz and Lille earlier in the campaign.

His inclusion in David Moyes’ side would also bring healthy competition within the squad. And if Haller can raise the level of his game, West Ham could benefit from their partnership.

Verdict

Moyes has to make changes as early as this summer as they are in dire need of a striker, who can help the team. Guirassy could provide the much-needed extra goals which the Hammers have failed to score throughout the season, if he reproduces his current form.

Hence, West Ham should strike a deal for the Frenchman and lure him to the London Stadium.
