Why Willian Jose can be a fantastic addition for Wolves

According to NBC Sports, Willian Jose of Real Sociedad has emerged as a target for Wolves. However, the report states that the deal is almost done and Jose will join on a loan deal with an option to buy. With Raul Jiminez still making a recovery from his fractured skull, Wolves have been on the lookout for a striker.

Born in Brazil, Jose came through the ranks of Regatas Brasil’s youth system. He joined Uruguayan side Maldonado in January 2011 but spent most of his career on loan spells. He played for clubs like Sao Paulo, Gremio, Real Madrid Castilla, Real Zaragoza, and Las Palmas before joining Sociedad in the summer of 2016 on a permanent basis.

Since then, he has become an integral member of the squad and has led the team regularly in the last four seasons. He finished as the club’s top-scorer with 11 goals last season and helped them to a seventh-place finish in the La Liga. He has made 170 appearances for the Spanish outfit to date, racking up 62 goals and 16 assists, and has been consistent and reliable in the last few seasons.

Wolves need an experienced striker

There is simply no way to say how important Jimenez is to Wolves. The Mexican has been their leading man in the league since their promotion. The team has somewhat functioned around him. His injury against Arsenal has put serious question marks on the side’s goalscoring ability. There are hardly any other recognised strikers in the side.

Fabio Silva was brought in but he is still too young to be making a mark. Nuno Espirito Santo has used the likes of Pedro Neto, Adama Traore and Daniel Podence in the forward roles. While they have done their best, the team is crying out for a focal point in the attack.

Willian Jose can be a good signing

In that regard, Jose would be a fantastic addition to the squad. The Brazilian has been consistent for Sociedad in the last few years. He has scored more than 10 goals in each of the last three league campaigns. If he is able to replicate the same form, Wolves could benefit from his presence.

His inclusion would definitely add depth to the attacking ranks, whilst also bringing healthy competition to the squad. He could be a perfect backup for Jimenez and could reduce the goalscoring burden on the Mexican.

At 29, he still has a few more years left to play at the top level and could be a crucial addition to Nuno’s squad. And with limited options in their attack, it is clear that someone like Jose would bolster their attack. Thus, Wolves are right to lure the Brazilian to Molineux this month.
