Why Wissam Ben Yedder to Manchester United would bolster their attack

As per France Football (h/t The Sun), Manchester United are interested in signing Monaco forward Wissam Ben Yedder in the summer. And the striker has expressed his desire to quit the Ligue 1 outfit at the end of the season.

Ben Yedder, 29, came through the ranks of Saint-Denis’ youth system and joined Toulouse’s B squad in the summer of 2010. After making 174 appearances and scoring 72 goals for Toulouse’s senior team, he moved to Spain with Sevilla and was successful.

In three seasons in Spain, he scored 70 goals in 138 games for the La Liga outfit before joining Monaco last summer. The Frenchman has been in sensational form in the past few seasons and his impressive performances have also garnered attention from top Premier League clubs like Liverpool, Manchester City, Tottenham and Arsenal, as per the report. Thus, United should make a move for him at the earliest.

Ben Yedder could be a leader in Man United’s attack

Anthony Martial, Mason Greenwood and Odion Ighalo are the three natural strikers available at Solskjaer’s disposal. Martial has done well so far, scoring 11 goals. Ighalo has also been brilliant in the few opportunities he has received. Mason Greenwood has also shown his potential in the past 12 months.

However, Ighalo has just a year left on his contract with the club and Greenwood, who is young, needs time to develop into a senior in the attack. Thus, signing a striker this summer would help United add depth to their squad and it would also help the manager rotate his squad with ease.

In that regard, signing Ben Yedder would be a smart move by the club. The French international had racked up 18 goals in 26 Ligue 1 games this season before the league was called off. Last season with Sevilla, he managed 18 goals in La Liga and seems to be in good form.

The 29-year-old’s inclusion to Solskjaer’s squad would definitely bring healthy competition and he has the ability to lead the attack. He has proven his worth in La Liga and Ligue 1 and has the ability to succeed at Old Trafford.

Verdict

At 29, he has a few more years left at the top and United could do well with another in-form striker in their ranks. Ben Yedder could provide them with some much-needed goals, whilst also adding depth to the squad. Thus, they should lure the former Sevilla man to Old Trafford this summer.
