Time for goodbye – Why Wolves would be wise to offload 22-year-old ace amidst Serie A interest

Why Wolves should offload Patrick Cutrone permanently in the summer

As per Corriere Dello Sport (h/t Birmingham Mail), Serie A side Fiorentina want to sign Patrick Cutrone, who is on loan from Wolves, permanently at the end of the season.

Cutrone, 22, came through the ranks of AC Milan’s youth system and burst onto the scene with the club’s senior side in the 2017/18 season. He scored 18 goals in that campaign and followed it up with 9 goals in the next season. His impressive performances earned him a move to the English side Wolves last summer.

However, he couldn’t replicate the same form and had a disappointing spell in England before moving to Fiorentina in January. He has struggled with the Viola too, with just one goal in 9 appearances for the Serie A side.

Meanwhile, Nuno Espirito Santo has done a wonderful job as Wolves boss in the last two campaigns, helping his side qualify for the European League and taking them further in the competition. They have been brilliant in every department.

The attacking unit, which consists of star forwards like Raul Jimenez, Diogo Jota, Adama Traore and Pedro Neto has been impressive upfront. The forwards have scored 41 goals so far and at the same time, the defensive unit has also done well conceding just 34 goals. With a perfect squad at the manager’s disposal, it would be wise to sell Patrick Cutrone permanently for the club.

Jimenez and Jota have been brilliant in leading the attacking unit and Pedro Neto has been more than an able backup. On the right-wing, Adama Traore has exceeded expectations and has nailed the spot for himself. With a perfect set of forwards, it would make no sense for Wolves to keep hold of the Italian youngster.

The 22-year-old has struggled despite getting enough opportunities and has only scored thrice for the Midlands club. He has not been at his best since moving away from San Siro and keeping him at Molineux would only waste their resources.

Cutrone needs to develop himself into a finished article before taking huge strides and that cannot be done in the Premier League, which is considered to be the toughest league in Europe. He would also end up on the bench with Wolves, like he did for most of the first-half of the season, due to the other star-performers at Nuno’s disposal.

Verdict

Wolves have a plethora of attacking talents at their disposal and adding to that would only make them waste their resources. Instead, they should look to strengthen other areas on the pitch and bring stability to the squad.

Therefore, selling Cutrone permanently in the summer would be a wise decision by the Black Country club.
