Why Wolves signing Enzo Loiodice form Dijon is a sensible move

According to Wolves.co.uk, Wolves have signed exciting French youth international Enzo Loiodice on loan until the end of the season.

The report also claims that Loiodice will join Wolves’ U23 side as they look to make improvements to their development squad and the club have an option to turn the midfielder’s loan move into a permanent one if he impresses at the Molineux.

Wolves’ sporting director has admitted to having monitored the French U20 youth prospect for a long time, according to the report.

Loiodice, 19, who came through Dijon’s youth ranks, broke his way into the first-team in 2018, making his debut in a 3-1 loss against Bordeaux in April of that year. Since then, he has gone on to make 24 appearances with the senior squad and contributing with just an assist so far.

This season, he played five Ligue 1 games for the French outfit and despite his tender age, moving to England does represent a smart choice.

Meanwhile, James Collins’ Wolves U23 side are currently 11th in the Premier League 2 standings. The last time they won a game was back in October against Morecombe FC. Since then, they have managed just three points from 10 games, losing seven of them. Therefore, to boost their chances of finishing higher up the table, signing Enzo Loiodice from Dijon makes sense.

A central midfielder by trade, Loiodice is capable of playing in a defensive role by sitting deeper in the middle of the park. In the game against Stade Rennais back in November, he was deployed to take care of defensive duties before being substituted.

The 19-year-old has some international experience under his belt after featuring in 6 games for the France U20 squad. While English youngster Ryan Giles is the only one who has featured regularly for the Black Country outfit’s U23 side, Hong-Wan and Wai-Tsun Dai haven’t been convincing. Thus, there is space for Loiodice to grab the opportunity with both hands and make an impact.

Verdict

Wolves have made the right choice by signing the youngster, as he has already played at a higher level. That said, it remains to be seen if he can secure a permanent contract with the club in the near future.
