WWE 2K21 has been cancelled but there could be a surprise coming soon

WWE had a disaster on their hands after the release of their yearly game, WWE 2K20. Now, it wasn’t WWE’s fault completely but 2K decided to hand over the development to Visual Concepts from Yukes, who had developed most of the games.

This is the only licensed WWE that comes out regularly for PCs and consoles, and WWE 2K20 was an absolute mess.

The player models looked horrible, the gameplay wasn’t smooth and there were a ton of glitches and bugs.

2K had to release several patches for WWE 2K20, and even their idea of the WWE Originals couldn’t cut it.

Many outlets handed poor reviews to the game, but it has improved over the past few months. Some bugs and glitches have been ironed out, however, there are still problems with the game.

2K and WWE confirmed that 2K21 would be cancelled for the next year, and that might actually be good news.

Sure, we won’t get a new game but this is a real chance for Visual Concepts and 2K to get their act together.

A new game too?

WWE has released other games in the past which weren’t in line with the 2K series or their SmackDown vs Raw series either.

All Stars was one of the most fun games, and it took a different route from the current simulation style. That was more arcadey fun with an emphasis on over the top moves and just fast-paced action. It gave fans something casual to play and have a lot of fun.

Something similar would be great and WWE games has teased that there will be some big news coming out on Monday.

Now, some fans are worried that 2K21 would be cancelled but that isn’t a bad thing. Firstly, it will allow Visual Concepts to understand the WWE 2K engine.

The current game looks and feels more or less like 2K19, so another year in development should help Concepts to get some things right.

They will also have more time to fix the bugs and not rush their product, unlike 2K20. Further, Visual Concepts has launched several NBA 2K games, so they know how to put out quality.

If another IP is coming out this could give a rise to some crazy games that casual gamers could enjoy.

For example, EA Sports came out with a range of ‘street’ games during the 2000s. The NFL, NBA and FIFA Street games were incredibly fun, but they have walked away from that in the last decade or so.

A break from WWE 2K will also be good for the fans but there is something that 2K can do for the current players.

Update 2K20

Of course, they can send patches and updates to the existing game for another year. This will also serve as a testing ground for new player models and modes, and using 2K20 as a beta almost.

2K have done this with four WWE Originals packages, and it will be interesting to see what is on their mind on Monday.

2K20 was an absolute disaster that is somewhat passable now, and hopefully, game fans don’t have to deal with someone like that ever again.
