Predicted Liverpool XI to face Napoli: Who should start for the Reds?
With six wins out of seven, Liverpool have made one of the best-ever starts to their Premier League campaign. Although they crashed out in the third round of the Carabao Cup after a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Chelsea, the Reds came back strongly to hold the Blues to a 1-1 draw at Stamford Bridge last weekend.
Arguably the better team in that draw, manager Jurgen Klopp should have plenty of positives to take from a strong performance. Liverpool no longer have a perfect record in the Premier League but they are still strong contenders to challenge for the crown.
The Reds put up a brilliant performance on matchday one and ran away with all three points with a 3-2 victory over French champions Paris Saint-Germain. However, the Reds must maintain their level of consistency when they travel to Italy to face Napoli on Wednesday.
Team News
Liverpool will be without the services of Adam Lallana, who continues his recovery from a groin injury while Divock Origi will be unavailable due to a foot injury.
Meanwhile, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is ruled out for the season following the knee injury he suffered in the previous campaign.
Predicted Liverpool XI to face Napoli
Formation: 4-3-3
Manager: Jurgen Klopp
Alisson (GK)
The Brazilian made some wonderful one-on-one saves against Chelsea and should take his position between the sticks on Wednesday.
Trent Alexander-Arnold (RB)
The youngster had a solid game against Chelsea and should start in the Champions League.
Joe Gomez (CB)
The youngster has established himself as a regular starter this season and proved his worth against Chelsea. Klopp must persist with him.
Virgil van Dijk (CB)
The Dutchman’s commanding presence is indispensable for the Reds at the back and he should be one of the first names on the teamsheet.
Andrew Robertson (LB)
The Scottish international has been in good form this season and has contributed equally to the defence and the attack. Klopp should hand him another start on Wednesday.
Georginio Wijnaldum (CM)
He has been adept at breaking up the play in the midfield with crucial interceptions and has passed the ball around with ease. There is no reason why Klopp should bench him.
Naby Keita (LCM)
Jordan Henderson failed to make an impact against Chelsea and that should open the door for the new signing to reclaim his position in the starting line-up.
James Milner (RCM)
The veteran continues to be one of the key figures for Liverpool in the midfield with his work rate, passing and crossing.
Mohamed Salah (RW)
The Egyptian hasn’t quite found his feet this season but Klopp should persist with him for the kind of magic he can come up with.
Sadio Mane (LW)
He has put in the hard yards this season and has already scored four goals in the Premier League. He is one of Liverpool’s tireless workers in the final third and Klopp should continue with him.
