Watford vs Southampton Predictions: Watford Predicted Starting XI

Watford’s last fixture saw them comfortably surpass the test that was set to them by Jan Siewert’s Huddersfield Town side, who are simply playing for pride at this stage in the season. Eventual 2-0 winners on the night, the Hornets showed excellent work ethic and were the better team by a distance.

It took a couple of goals from former Barcelona man Gerard Deulofeu to seal the win as Watford prepared for another league match on Wednesday night. With a lot to still fight for, they will be hoping that they’re able to cast aside the challenge posed by Southampton.

Roberto Pereyra’s match-readiness for this tie still remains a massive doubt and his involvement in the game against the Saints could be under question. Troy Deeney is serving a suspension for the red card received a couple weeks ago and this will be the 2nd of his 3-match ban.

Domingos Quina is another player who’s been ruled out of this fixture and while Jose Holebas’ return in the coming week will be massive, he’s expected to miss this tie.

Tom Cleverly has also recently returned to full training and should be back in the coming days but playing against the Saints could be a tough ask.

The defensive commander in this Hornets side, Mariappa’s physical superiority over most attackers also gives him an edge. 

CB Craig Cathcart

The Englishman has been in decent form for Watford this season and has even pitched with the odd goal. 

LB Adam Masina

The youngster has been a welcome change for the Hornets at left-back and is expected to keep his place.

CM Etienne Capoue

The Frenchman has been one of the Hornets’ most important players over the years and should start this tie. 

CM Abdoulaye Doucoure

Doucoure’s contributions to this Watford side have increased exponentially this season and he has impressed. 

RAM Ken Sema

The 25-year-old Swede has stepped up to the plate whenever his services have been called upon.

LAM Will Hughes

With Pereyra expected to miss this tie as well, Hughes is the ideal man to come in and take over the role.
