The 2022 Austrian GP will take place this upcoming weekend from the 8-10th of July at the Red Bull Ring, but will there be a sprint qualifying?
Following a sensational British GP last weekend, F1 action will resume at the Red Bull ring this weekend for the 2022 Austrian GP. This will be the 11th round of the 23 expected races in the 2022 season. But amid the hype of the upcoming race weekend, several fans on social media are also keen to know whether there will be a sprint qualifying session for the Austrian GP.
Yes. There will be a sprint qualifying round to determine the grid for Sunday’s race at the 2022 Austrian GP. However, there may be a few changes in terms of the regular weekend schedule as the Styrian hills will host its first F1 sprint qualifying session.
For the GP weekend in Austria, the alternative format will be used for the second time this season, after Imola, which held the first Sprint qualifying session of the 2022 season. As a result, the schedule looks a little different than usual.
The Saturday sprint qualifying session will see all the drivers take part in a 100km dash to determine their grid slot for the main race on Sunday. The first sprint race of the year at Imola was won by Max Verstappen, who made an overtake on pole-sitter Charles Leclerc on the final lap.
