Duncan is making her mark at Freeform as president, overseeing strategic planning, brand development, content strategy development, original programming production scheduling financing research and communications at Disney’s youth-skewing cable network. Duncan began this role last summer after replacing Tom Ascheim who moved on to head Warner Bros.’ kids and young adult division.
Prior to her work with Netflix, Duncan worked on projects including Spike Lee’s She’s Gotta Have It reboot, Baz Luhrmann’s The Get Down, and Sens8 by the Wachowskis. She served on the board of directors of National Black Arts Festival as well as founding Time’s Up executive mentorship program.
Duncan made one of her initial goals at Freeform expanding its scripted lineup. To do this, she secured a renewal for Everything’s Gonna Be Okay while tapping former Tornante TV and Comedy Central grad Lauren Corrao to oversee content acceleration for Freeform. Corrao is also currently leading development on single-camera comedies from Bad Sisters creator Sharon Horgan and Line of Duty star Anna Maxwell Martin.

Motherland: Fort Salem delivered plenty of plot twists and drama in its second season. Abigail and Raelle had to come together for the first time ever while Camarilla attempted to recapture Fort Salem using their living weapon: witch plague. As part of her plan, Sarah Alder (Lyne Renee), General of Fort Salem Army sacrificed herself in order to keep Fort Salem intact and save its army.
Though Grown-ish may not have been an instantaneous hit in terms of linear ratings, it seems to be finding success among DVR and streaming audiences – which bodes well for Freeform as much depends on its current lineup – including Grown-ish, Good Trouble and Cruel Summer on its way soon.
Motherland: Fort Salem was an incredible ride for fans. This show explored important issues like feminism, diversity and proper representation without ever resorting to stereotypes or cliches. Motherland is truly unique and will be sorely missed, but I hope its creators return some form of it soon so fans can continue exploring this world and enjoying these characters.

I found the second season finale to leave many questions unanswered, so it will be interesting to see how the third and final season resolves them. My hope is that Tally and Raelle may finally reunite after all this time apart, while we might learn why the Camarilla faked Raelle’s death all this time, Petra Bellweather overthrowing General Alder’s position, will attempt to gain power back within their ranks, etc.
