Wimbledon 2022 QF Men’s Singles Predictions (6th July)

Published by

The second day of the Wimbledon 2022 QF will see the likes of Rafael Nadal, Taylor Fritz, Cristian Garin, and Nick Kyrgios in action.

We have seen quite a few upsets in this year’s edition. That is the reason we are seeing so many players playing for the first time in the quarter-final stage of the competition. The upsets have not only been limited to the men’s event as the same has transpired in the women’s event as well. Let’s take a look at the couple of quarter-final matches that will take place on the 6th of July.

Taylor Fritz

Taylor Fritz versus Rafael Nadal

The talented Taylor Fritz defeated Rafael Nadal in the finals of the Indian Wells Masters earlier in the year. He is currently ranked world No. 14. This is the first time he has reached the quarter-final stage of Wimbledon. The 11th seed has victories over Lorenzo Musetti, Alastair Gray, Alex Molcan, and Jason Kubler till now in this edition of the tournament. The American has dominated all his matches and is yet to drop a set. Fritz has won 29 out of 39 matches he has played this season

Rafael Nadal has battled injuries and produced scintillating performances throughout the year. He won 2022 Australian Open and followed it up with a thumping French Open triumph. He is on the quest for his third hurray at the most prestigious Grand Slam in tennis. The Spaniard needed four sets to out his opponents in the first and second rounds. He was looking a tad off color but from the third round onwards, the 22-time Grand Slam champion has got back his mojo and is looking almost invincible. He stormed into the quarter-finals on the back of two straight-set wins against Lorenzo Sonego and Botic van de Zandschulp respectively. Nadal did not give his last two opponents any chance to have a say throughout the matches. It seems that the veteran is peaking at the right moment in the business end of the tournament.

Head to Head: 1-1.

Prediction: Rafael Nadal to win in four sets.

Cristian Garin versus Nick Kyrgios

The Chilean Cristian Garin has had a great campaign so far. He has reached the quarter-final stage for the first time in a Grand Slam. World No. 43 made light work of his opponents Elias Ymer and Hugo Grenier in the first couple of rounds. He lost the third set of his third match in the competition against world No. 34 Jenson Brooksby but eventually won the match in four sets. Garin’s best performance came in the Round of 16. He lost the first couple of sets to world No. 27 Alex de Minaur but managed to turn the tides and win the next three sets to eventually seal a memorable victory. This win will certainly give Garin a lot of confidence before he takes on the experienced Nick Kyrgios in the quarter-final.

The 27-year-old Australian has been in the news for mainly the wrong reasons but his performances have been quite impressive, to say the least. He has managed to reach the quarter-finals for only the second time in his career and that has come after a gap of 8 years. Two out of Kyrgios’ four matches till now have been decided in the fifth set. He started his campaign with a hard-fought victory over Paul Jubb. He followed it up with a comfortable win over Filip Krajinovic in straight sets. The third-round match that Kyrgios had with Stefanos Tsitsipas was a heated affair. Both players have been fined for their behavior during the match.

Kyrgios won the encounter in four sets after dropping the first set. In the Round of 16, Kyrgios had to be on top of his game as his opponent Brandon Nakashima was in fine form. The star from Down Under managed to win the match in five sets.

Head-to-Head: 0-0.

Prediction: Nick Kyrgios to win in five sets.
