Wimbledon 2022 has offered some great tennis action with players pushing their limits and bringing their best to the table.
Let’s take a look at the confirmed women’s matches for the Round of 16:
Tatjana Maria has been on a roll in the ongoing Wimbledon tournament. She went past a game Astra Sharma in the first round 4-6, 6-3, 6-4. In the second round, Maria overcame the challenge thrown at her by the Romanian Sorana Cirstea to win 6-3, 1-6, 7-5. The Belgian star produced her best performance in round three where she ousted the 5th seed Maria Sakkari in straight sets.
The 2017 French Open champion has looked in good nick. She defeated Oceane Dodin in the first round 6-4, 6-4. The 25-year-old eased past Yanina Wickmayer 6-2, 6-2 in the second round. Ostapenko showed her never-say-never attitude in the third-round match against Irina-Camelia Bagu. Ostapenko fought back after losing the first set and eventually won 3-6, 6-1, 6-1.

Heather Watson won the mixed doubles event at Wimbledon 2016 alongside Henry Kontinen. However, as far as singles competition is concerned, she never made it to the last 16 stage of any Grand Slam before Wimbledon 2022. The former British No. 1 managed to come back strongly after losing the first set of the first-round match against Tamara Korpatsch to never drop another set again till now in the competition. She won the round one match 6-7 (7-9), 7-5, 6-2. In round two, Watson won comfortably against China’s Wang Qiang 7-5, 6-4. In the third-round match against Kaja Juvan, Watson won 7-6 (8-6), 6-2 to set up a date with Jule Niemeier.
The young German Jule Niemeier has also reached the fourth round of a Grand Slam for the very first time. The 22-year-old made her Grand Slam debut during the Roland Garros in May. She began her Wimbledon campaign with a 6-1, 6-4 win over Xiyu Wang. Niemeier followed up the win with a monumental performance against the world No. 3 and second seed Anett Kontaveit in the second round. World No. 97 won in straight sets 6-4, 6-0. In the third-round clash against Lesia Tsurenko, Niemeier won 6-4, 3-6, 6-3.

The 23-year-old Marie Bouzkova has been playing quite nicely in the tournament so far. She won her round one match against Danielle Collins 5-7, 6-4, 6-4. The next couple of matches has been relatively easy for world No. 66 as she breezed past Ann Li and Alison Riske-Amritraj in straight sets.
Caroline Garcia had to show great resilience in her first-round match against Yuriko Miyazaki. The Japanese-born British player won the first set but the 28-year-old from France eventually won 4-6, 6-1, 7-6 (10-4). Garcia broke the hearts of the home fans when she knocked out the 19-year-old 2021 US Open champion Emma Raducanu in the second round. The 2022 Bad Homburg Open champion defeated Zhang Shuai in two closely-contested sets 7-6 (7-3), 7-6 (7-5) in the third round.

Mertens started her Wimbledon 2022 campaign with a 6-1 loss in the first set of her first-round match against Camila Osorio. The current world No. 1 in doubles fought back strongly to win the second set 6-2. She was leading the third set 4-2 when her opponent had to give a walkover due to an injury. In round two, the 26-year-old saved two match points against Panna Udvardy to eventually win the match 3-6, 7-6 (7-5), 7-5. The Belgian caused one of the biggest upsets in Wimbledon 2022 when she defeated the former Wimbledon champion Angelique Kerber in straight sets in a round of 32 clash.
Ons Jabeur came into the tournament on the back of some sparkling performances in 2022 and carried the momentum into the most prestigious Grand Slam in the sport. The second seed has not lost a set as yet. In the first round, she ousted Mirjam Bjorklund 6-1, 6-3. In round two, she dominated the match against Katarzyna Kawa to win 6-4, 6-0. Finally, in the third round, the Tunisian defeated Diane Parry 6-2, 6-3 to set up a date with Mertens in round four.
