Before the two charismatic athletes, Novak Djokovic and Nick Kyrgios, lock horns in the final of this year’s Wimbledon tournament, let’s take a look back at when they faced each other for the first time.
Nick Kyrgios and Novak Djokovic have been brilliant in the ongoing Wimbledon tournament. The Australian has won more matches than any other man on the grass-court season this year. He has lost just two matches till now. However, he will face an uphill task when he tries to stop the Serbian legend from winning his fourth consecutive Wimbledon title.
Kyrgios fans will take confidence from the fact that the 27-year-old has never lost to Novak Djokovic. The sample size might be small but enough to consider it a positive. They have faced each other twice with Kyrgios getting the better of the veteran on both occasions.
Kyrgios also managed to defeat Djokovic in straight sets on both occasions. However, Djokovic fans will be quietly confident about seeing the 35-year-old win his 21st Grand Slam and closing in on Rafael Nadal’s 22 titles.
2017 Mexican Open quarter-final: Novak Djokovic versus Nick Kyrgios
Novak Djokovic came into the match as the overwhelming favorite but Nick Kyrgios brought his A-game to the fore to stun the Serbian.
Kyrgios fired 25 aces in the match and had answers to almost everything being thrown at him by the veteran. Djokovic was a 12-time Grand Slam champion at that point in time. However, Kyrgios was not overawed whatsoever.
Kyrgios won the match 7-6 (11-9), 7-5. The only other meeting between them came later in the year in the fourth round of the Indian Wells Masters. Kyrgios ended Djokovic’s 19-match winning streak with a 6-4, 7-6 (7-3) victory.
