Why Chelsea should offload Willian and get Malcom in a swap deal

According to a report in the Telegraph, Chelsea have rejected an offer from Barcelona to swap Willian for Malcom plus cash. It is suggested that the Spanish champions are ready to offload the latter despite spending £36.5m on his over the summer window.

Willian has been a Barcelona target in the past as well. However, Chelsea are not the ones to bulge. As per the current situation, the offer to the London club was to get Malcom and some cash for the 30-year-old, that would value the deal at around £50m. (The Telegraph)

Willian

As per the report, even though the former has only 18 months left on his contract at Stamford Bridge, the Blues rate him higher than the price offered. But, here’s why they should agree on this swap deal.

Malcom could add fire and thrust to Chelsea attack

There is no doubt that Willian is a fantastic player who has been a great servant to the club ever since he arrived in 2013. The Brazilian is always one of those assets in the team, who can change a game in an instance and put the opposition on the back foot. To support the quality he possesses, the 30-year-old has two Premier League winners’ medals in his cabinet.

However, in the past six months or so, the winger has struggled to harness many impacts. Chelsea changed their approach by hiring an attack-minded gaffer in Maurizio Sarri. Even then Willian has laboured to impress everyone around the club. He sure has qualities to change the game, but he frustrates more often than not before producing something.

Malcom

The Blues could do with someone more consistent trust-worthy for a lengthy period of time if they are to challenge for the title in the coming season. Buying Christian Pulisic and getting him in the summer is the first good thing. The second would be to get Malcom in the squad, be it by offloading Willian.

The 21-year-old hasn’t been able to impact at Barcelona due to various circumstances but he remains a high-quality player who has abundance of propensities to trouble any defence. He is young and can learn a lot by playing more games, rather than sitting out at the Camp Nou.

Furthermore, from what we have seen of him pre-Barcelona, the Brazilian can be a great foil to attacking players like Pedro, Eden Hazard and Pulisic next season.
