The Winston-Salem Open 2022 is nearing its conclusion as only three matches are left before we crown the new champion. Botic van de Zandschulp and Adrian Mannarino lock horns in the semifinal which takes place on August 27.
Adrian Mannarino
The 34-year-old has been in fine form at the Winston-Salem Open. He has defeated some big names in the competition and has a great chance of winning his second ATP Tour title. This is just the second time in 2022, that the veteran has reached the semi-final stage of a competition. He lost in the Libema Open semifinal to Daniil Medvedev.
So far in the Winston-Salem Open, Mannarino has defeated Christopher O’Connell, Emil Ruusuvuori, Albert Ramos-Vinolas, and Maxime Cressy. Apart from O’Connell, the others are all ranked above the Frenchman. Cressy was a strong favorite to win the competition but Mannarino played some fantastic tennis to win the match 6-4, 7-6 (7-3).
Botic van de Zandschulp
The 26-year-old came close to winning his first ATP Tour title at the BMW Open earlier this year. He faced Holger Rune in the final. However, Zandschulp retired during the match citing chest pains. He now has a great chance of winning his first title whilst knocking on the door of the Top 20 in the ATP rankings.
The second-seeded Dutchman hasn’t dropped a set as yet. He began his campaign with a win against Tallon Griekspoor. In the next match, he defeated Spain’s Jaume Munar. In the quarter-final, Zandschulp defeated Frenchman Benjamin Bonzi.
Head-to-Head and Prediction
The duo has faced each other in only one previous instance. The youngster won that match and leads the head-to-head 1-0.
Prediction: Botic Van de Zandschulp to win in three sets.
