Dominik Thiem will return to action as he faces Jeffrey John Wolf in the round of 64 of the Winston-Salem Open on Tuesday.
The Austrian was sidelined for a year because of a wrist injury before making his competitive return to action in March. The former World No. 3 has won 7 out of the 16 matches he has played in 2022.
He reached the semifinals of the Swiss Open and quarterfinals in Sweden and Austria. He was set to compete at the recently concluded Cincinnati Masters but a respiratory infection forced him to withdraw prior to the event.
The 23-year-old has managed to climb up the ATP rankings considerably this season. Just a few months back, he was outside the top 200 but now he sits at No. 83.
He has received a wildcard in this tournament and is coming off a first-round exit at the Cincinnati Masters following a loss to Emil Ruusuvuori. However, he has put in decent performances at the Challenger events this season and reached the quarterfinals of the Citi Open, defeating the likes of Taro Daniel, Denis Shapovalov, and Holger Rune.
This will be the first meeting between Dominic Thiem and Jeffrey John Wolf. Therefore, the head-to-head currently stands at 0-0.
The youngster plays an aggressive brand of tennis but we are backing the 2020 US Open champion to use his experience and pick up the win.
Prediction: Dominic Thiem to win in straight sets.
