Why Loris Karius would be a good addition for Wolves
According to Turkish publication Fanatik (h/t Daily Mail), Wolves have approached Liverpool to sign their goalkeeper Loris Karius on loan.
The German keeper had spent the last two seasons with Turkish side Besiktas after his horror show in the 2018 Champions League final defeat against Real Madrid. With Alisson’s arrival in the subsequent summer, Karius was shipped out on loan.
However, the 26-year-old German is set for a return to the Premier League with his loan deal at Besiktas expiring soon.
Meanwhile, Karius’ future at Liverpool remains a concern with Brazilian keeper Alisson Becker establishing himself as the side’s undisputed No.1.
He was a key member of the Reds squad which finished second last season and went on to win the 2018/19 Champions League. He also won the Copa America with Brazil the same year.
Alisson stood above the rest of the keepers in Premier League with a towering 21 clean sheets from 38 league games last season, enabling him to win the 2019 Best FIFA Goalkeeper award.
With Alisson clearly dominating not just at Anfield but the entire Europe, Karius’ chances of breaking into the first-team line-up look very bleak. Also, with the presence of back-up keeper Adrian within the side, Karius’ hopes of returning to action seem increasingly limited.
That said, Wolves have contacted Liverpool for a potential loan swoop for their former No.1 custodian (h/t Daily Mail).
Karius a good addition at Wolves
Nuno Espirito Santo’s side have enjoyed a successful campaign with main man Rui Patricio guarding their posts this season.
Patricio has featured in all their 29 league outings this season, signifying his worth within the squad. He is one of the first few names on the teamsheet and has helped Wolves climb to an impressive sixth in the league table, with eight clean sheets this term.
Wolves are just five points short of fourth-placed Chelsea and were fighting for Champions League qualification before play got suspended due to coronavirus crisis. With Wolves set to make a potential entry into the mega event, Karius’ arrival would be a step in the right direction as it would add depth to the goalkeeping department.

Having played for Mainz and Liverpool in the past, there is no denying that Karius has potential. Moreover, he would offer competition to Patricio for the starting berth. Especially with Wolves’ second-choice keeper John Ruddy’s spell at the club nearing an end.
Ruddy, 33, has just made a total of six appearances for Wolves this term. His contract at the club will expire at the end of the season. Thus, Wolves making a move for Karius seems like a wise decision.
Verdict
With Wolves recording one of their best performances in recent times, having an experienced keeper like Karius will only do them good. With Ruddy’s contract expiring, signing the German would provide the Midlands’ outfit with much-needed depth in the goalkeeping department.
