Why Marseille midfielder Morgan Sanson would be a smart fit at Wolves
According to French website 10 Sport (h/t The Birmingham Mail), Wolves have been linked with Marseille midfielder Morgan Sanson ahead of the summer transfer window.
A youth product of the Le Mans academy, Morgan Sanson, 25, joined Montpellier back in 2013 before moving to Marseille in January 2017. Since then, he has been a regular member and has been one of the best players under Andre Villa-Boas this campaign.
The Frenchman has produced five goals and as many assists in 30 appearances across all competitions so far this term, with the report (h/t The Birmingham Mail) adding that Aston Villa and Newcastle are also thought to be interested in securing his services.
The central midfielder enjoyed the best season of his career till date in the 2017/18 season when he scored 12 goals in 53 appearances across all competitions. With Sanson impressing at Marseille over the last two campaigns, Wolves must make a move for him when the transfer window opens.
Wolves have enjoyed another solid campaign in the Premier League and are fighting to achieve a place in the Champions League next term. As far as the Europa League is concerned, they are in the last eight of the competition.
Raul Jimenez has been Wolves’ primary source of goals this season, bagging 22 goals across all competitions. The Mexican has been ably helped by Adama Traore and Diogo Jota up front. After signing Daniel Podence and Leonardo Campana in January, Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo should look to reinforce the midfield department in summer.
Ruben Neves and Joao Moutinho have forged a strong partnership in the middle of the park since the Wanderers achieved promotion to the top-flight in 2018.
Other than Neves and Moutinho, Nuno only has Romain Saiss, Leander Dendoncker and Morgan Gibbs-White as options in midfield, which isn’t enough to compete for trophies. Thus, signing a central midfielder shouldn’t be ignored at any cost and Morgan Sanson would be a smart fit at Molineux.
Essentially a box-to-box midfielder, Sanson is comfortable in both the deep-lying role and the advanced role. His numbers of 23 goals and 19 assists in 123 appearances for Marseille are good considering he’s a central midfielder.
Though the Frenchman mostly operates in central midfield, his goals are proof that he can make a difference to the attack. His versatile nature of play could be of immense help to the Wanderers.

Having made over 200 appearances in Ligue 1, there’s no doubting Sanson’s experience at the highest level. The 25-year-old could be a huge boost to Wolves if he can reproduce the same form he has shown with Marseille. He has the quality and experience to help Nuno’s side scale greater heights.
Verdict
With Moutinho 33 and not getting any younger, Nuno should sign a long-term replacement for the Portuguese. And Sanson could be that player for Wolves.
