Why Wolves should make a move for Christian Luyindama in the summer

According to a report from Belgian broadcaster RTBF (h/t Birmingham Mail), Wolves are set to rekindle their interest in Galatasaray defender Christian Luyindama in the summer.

Luyindama started out his professional career in his homeland of DR Congo, before making the switch to Belgian outfit Standard Liege in January 2017. The 26-year-old moved to Galatasaray in January 2019, after making 74 appearances for Standard Liege.

Since joining the club, Luyindama has featured 32 times, 15 of which have come this season. But a cruciate ligament rupture he suffered in November has cut his season short. Wolves had been interested in signing the DR Congo international prior to that. (h/t Birmingham Mail)

Christian Luyindama

Wolves have had another solid season this time out. Nuno Espirito Santo’s men are sixth in the Premier League table, while they have advanced to the UEFA Europa League round of 16. For them to take the next step, there should be recruitment over the summer with a focus on central defence.

Over the course of the season, Wolves have used midfielders Leander Dendoncker and Romain Saiss in the backline alongside captain Conor Coady. Ryan Bennett was allowed to leave on loan in January, while Willy Boly’s season has been riddled with injuries.

Young Max Kilman has emerged as an option for Nuno and Wolves, but having a more experienced campaigner within the squad should be on Wolves’ agenda if they are to break into the top four of the Premier League.

To that end, Luyindama would be a handy addition to the side for the Midlands’ club. The 26-year-old has been plying his trade in Europe for three years now. The DR Congo international has some degree of exposure in the Champions League and Europa League as well.

Verdict

At 26 years of age, Luyindama is set to enter the best years of his career and Wolves must look to capitalize on it. The DR Congo international, who is back in training after recovering from his injury (h/t Birmingham Mail), has enough experience to add more depth to the side for Wolves and should help them in the longer run.
