Wolves Opinion: Salomon Rondon signing would guarantee Europe

According to a recent report by Shropshire Star, West Bromwich Albion’s Venezuelan international striker Salomon Rondon is said to be the subject of a lot of interest from some of the Premier League’s strongest clubs. While Nuno Espirito Santo’s Wolves are said to the front-runners at this time, it has been recorded that West Ham United and former club Newcastle United are also quite keen.

It is being suggested that Wolves, who were the surprise package of the Premier League season, are in the driving seat regarding a deal for the Venezuelan. Although they are suggested to be the closest to completing negotiations with bitter rivals West Bromwich Albion, it’s quite clear to see that the Hammers and the Magpies aren’t willing to go down without a fight.

Wolves are said to be lining up inquiries for a multitude of younger striking options in order to try and provide Raul Jimenez with the competition he needs to prosper in the first-team picture. It is being claimed that the only things keeping the deal from going through is the release clause in his contract – something that Wolves don’t seem to be ready to pay at this time.

Rondon is currently back at the Hawthorns but is certainly weighing up his options. Considering that the Baggies weren’t able to secure promotion, staying seems like an unlikely option for the 29-year-old. With three top-flight sides chasing the Venezuelan’s signature, it’s effectively guaranteed that he will be a Premier League Player next season.

His loan stint at St.James’ Park can only be classed as a successful one and his numbers in the league last season only back this up even further. With 11 goals and 7 assists to his name from 32 league games, Rondon was quite easily one of the most impressive members of this rather talented Newcastle United side.

His physical presence in the opposition box makes a real threat from set-pieces and crosses into the box. Heading ability is one of his biggest strengths and the fact that he understands the runs his teammates make means that he can be a manager’s dream to have in the side. He is also an excellent finisher of the ball in and around the box.

Wolves have been one of the most impressive teams of the league campaign that just passed and although they do have their flaws, the number of positives heavily outweigh them. The addition of a player like Rondon would address a multitude of issues within this team and would make complete sense for both the parties involved.
