Why Wolves should make a move for Newcastle’s Allan-Saint Maximin
According to the Daily Mail, Wolves are interested in signing Newcastle United winger Allan Saint-Maximin this summer.
The Wanderers are bracing themselves for interest in Adama Traore, with Real Madrid and Barcelona interested in him, the Daily Mail claims. The 24-year-old wide-man has been a revelation at the Molineux this season. He has scored four goals and provided seven assists in 26 Premier League games.
With Traore catching the attention of Barcelona and Real Madrid, Wolves have lined up Allan Saint-Maximin as a potential replacement should they decide to sell their star forward. However, Newcastle United, who signed Saint-Maximin from OGC Nice for just over £16million in the summer, are reluctant to sell their player in the summer, the report adds.
Meanwhile, Wolves have enjoyed a good 2019/20 season so far. They are fighting to finish in the top four and are competing in the Europa League, with Nuno Espirito Santo’s men having already put a foot in the competition’s next round after a 4-0 victory over Espanyol in the round of 32 first leg.
Traore has been one of the stars of Wolves’ campaign, creating havoc by striking a formidable partnership with fellow forwards Raul Jimenez and Diogo Jota. They have contributed to 30 goals in all competitions, with Traore scoring five out of that. He has been one of the most improved players under Nuno. Having said that, should Wolves replace Traore with Saint-Maximin in the summer?
Saint-Maximin has become a fan favourite at Newcastle since arriving from OGC Nice in the summer. He has only one Premier League goal and an assist this season, still struggling to add a regular end product. However, the Frenchman has been the one real bright spot for the Magpies this season.

Verdict
The potential is clearly there for Saint-Maximin and he could definitely improve his game under Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo, just like Traore. The 24-year-old Traore arrived at Molineux from Middlesbrough in the summer of 2018 as a raw winger and managed just one goal and an assist in 21 league starts last season.
But in less than two years’ time, he’s turned into one of the dangerous players in the Premier League, with the Spaniard netting four goals and supplying seven assists this term.
Replacing Traore would be difficult for Wolves but Nuno must attempt to bring in Saint-Maximin, who has the talent to improve himself, as evident from the bright performances he has put in for Newcastle this season.
