Tyson Fury came back from almost nowhere to defeat Deontay Wilder in a huge WBC heavyweight bout.
The 31-year-old was out of the boxing game for a couple of years, had packed on a lot of weight, and even had drug trouble before returning to the ring.
However, Fury worked incredibly hard to get into shape and he looked fitter than ever. That could have been due to nutrition expert George Lockhart.
Lockhart is a former MMA fighter and now looks at the conditioning of several stars, including Conor McGregor.
The former MMA star was speaking to Ariel Helwani and was asked if there was a difference between boxers and MMA fighters when working with them.
Lockhart could highlight the comparison between McGregor and Fury, and went on to say:
“Working with Tyson was very similar to working with Conor [McGregor]. Their mentality. I knew he was going to win. Their mindsets right, their camp is perfect.
“We know anything can happen in a fight, but there is nothing this individual can possibly do better to win this fight.”
Lockhart went on to say that some stars come back from sparring and blame others but that isn’t the case with McGregor or Fury:
“Tyson never has an excuse, same thing with Conor. People have to be in the right mindset, whereas Conor and Tyson, they don’t have to be in the right mindset, it’s just innate in them.”
The nutritionist also went on to say that he could guess Fury’s weight everyday and that became a running joke.
Lockhart was asked why he didn’t work with McGregor for his fight against Cerrone.
The former MMA star claimed that he has a lot of respect for McGregor and doesn’t forget people who are good to him.
However, another nutritionist, that had worked with Lockhart was joined up with McGregor and that allowed him to team up with Fury.
