Terry Funk is felicitated with Lifetime Achievement Award by Pro Wrestling Illustrated

Terry Funk is a legendary wrestler who has numerous accolades in his illustrious career inside the squared circle.

Funk is known for the longevity of his career. He has wrestled for a whopping 50+ years. Terry Funk is also known for his significant hardcore brand of wrestling that he excelled in during the later stages of his career.

He received the Stanley Weston Lifetime Achievement Award from Pro Wrestling Illustrated. Reports emerged last year that Funk’s dementia was increasing. As per January 2022, John Arezzi from the Pro Wrestling, in an update noted that Funk has been doing better lately, and getting the assisted care required.

The award was brought to him by his long-time buddy Manny Fernandez. The post read:

Terry Funk is 77-years old. He had many ring names in his career. Black Baron, Chainsaw Charlie, Dr. Knows-it-All, The Texan, and Terry Funk.

Terry debuted in 1965, while his last match was in 2017. He teamed up with The Rock N’ Roll Express in a six-man tag team match and defeated the team of Doug Gilbert, Jerry Lawler, and his son Brian Christopher. This was for the Big Time Wrestling promotion.

Funk is a former NWA World Heavyweight Champion, ECW World Heavyweight Champion, and a WWF Tag Team Champion with Cactus Jack. He has mentored many wrestlers such as Tommy Dreamer and Mick Foley.

He was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2009 alongside his brother Dory Funk. Terry Funk is one of only six men who have been inducted into each of the WWE, WCW, NWA, Professional Wrestling, and Wrestling Observer Newsletter Hall of fame clubs.

He mainly used three finishing moves in his career. They were the piledriver, sleeper hold, and spinning toe hold while some of his signature moves were the Hangman’s neck breaker, knife-edge chops, short armbar, and snap DDT.
