The red-hot Ana Konjuh squares off against another in-form player, Rebecca Peterson, in the semifinals of the WTA Andorra Open on Saturday.
The Croatian youngster has continued the sublime form that she showed at the ITF events in Slovakia and Italy. She has reached her fourth straight semifinal.
The 24-year-old began with a relatively comprehensive win against Frenchwoman Carole Monnet in the round of 32. He followed it up with a thumping win against pre-tournament favorite Tatjana Maria. Konjuh won the match in straight sets 6-3, 6-2. She faced another emerging Polish sensation, Weronika Falkowska, in the quarterfinals. Konjuh dropped her first set in the tournament in the second set. However, he performed quite well in sets one and two to win the match 7-5, 4-6, 6-3.
The 27-year-old has also been in solid form as of late. She has reached her third consecutive final after making the semis in ITF events in Las Vegas and Meitar.
Peterson began her campaign in Andorra with a convincing win against Arantxa Rus in the round of 32. She produced an even better performance against seventh seed Daria Snigur and dispatched the Ukrainian youngster in straight sets 6-4, 6-1. In the quarterfinals, Peterson locked horns with top seed Zhang Shuai. The Chinese veteran took the first set by the barest of margins but the Swedish athlete bounced back and annihilated her opponent in the following two sets to win the match 6-7 (5-7), 6-2, 6-1.
The head-to-head scoreline currently stands at 0-0 as the two players have not faced each other before.
Prediction: Ana Konjuh to win in three sets.
