Fifth seed Dayana Yastremska locks horns with Poland’s Weronika Falkowska in the round of 16 of the WTA Andorra Open.
The talented Ukrainian came into the tournament on the back of a disappointing exit in the first round at the WTA 125 event in Rouen. She has managed to bounce back strongly as she picked up a comprehensive win against Nigina Abduraimova in straight sets 6-1, 6-4.
During the match, Yastremska hit 5 aces but the six double faults she committed would be a cause of concern. The world No. 101 will look to take the positives from this match and continue her journey in the tournament. Another win will see her reach her fifth quarterfinal of the season.
The 22-year-old has played in three finals this year and won an ITF event in Estonia in August. She has fared better on the doubles circuit than in singles.
Falkowska began her campaign with a hard-fought win against Jacqueline Cristian in the round of 32. The match ended with the scoreline 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 in favor of the Polish youngster. Falkowska served up 5 aces and won 89 points during the match. She also had a win percentage of 69 on the first serve, where there is room for improvement. The world No. 143 has the potential to shock Yastremska but she will have to be at her best for that to happen.
The head-to-head scoreline currently stands at 0-0 as Dayana Yastremska and Weronika Falkowska have never faced each other as yet.
Prediction: Dayana Yastremska to win in straight sets.
