Third seed Tatjana Maria locks horns with Croatian youngster Ana Konjuh in the round of 16 of the WTA Andorra Open on Thursday.
On expected lines, Tatjana Maria began her campaign on a comprehensive note as she outclassed Victoria Jimenez Kasintseva in straight sets 6-0, 6-3.
The 35-year-old had a staggering win percentage of 91 on the first serve. She was very good on the return as Jimenez Kasintseva won only 35% of her serves. Maria won 62 points compared to just 40 won by the local teenager. The World No. 70 will be upbeat about her chances as she marches on in the competition.
The former ITF junior world No. 1 has been in sublime form in the last couple of months. Konjuh came to Andorra after winning two consecutive titles in Slovakia and Italy, respectively. She extended her winning streak to 11 by defeating Carole Monnet in the round of 32 in Andorra.
The 24-year-old Konjuh managed to defeat Monnet in straight sets 7-5, 6-4 with a solid performance. She served up 6 aces and had a win percentage of 78 on the first serve. However, she would have to keep a check on her double faults as she committed 11 during her match against Monnet.
The head-to-head scoreline currently stands at 2-0 in favor of Ana Konjuh. She defeated Maria in their most recent meeting in 2016 at the Guangzhou International Women’s Open in straight sets.
Prediction: Tatjana Maria to win in three sets.
