German veteran Tatjana Maria will lock horns with local talent Victoria Jimenez Kasintseva in the round of 32 of the WTA Andorra Open.
The 35-year-old won the second WTA title of her career at the Copa Colsanitas. Her greatest result came at Wimbledon, where she became the sixth female player in the Open Era to reach the semifinals over the age of 34. Maria was also the fourth player outside the top 100 to reach the Wimbledon semifinals. This was also her best result ever in a major.
The second seed most recently played in an ITF event in Shrewsbury, but she retired during her match in the round of 16 against Yuriko Miyazaki. The world No. 70 has a good chance of winning the tournament if she can keep her focus.
The 17-year-old is one of the exciting youngsters on the tour. She won an ITF title in Portugal last month by defeating Katarina Zavatska in straight sets in the final. Earlier in the year, Jimenez Kasintseva finished runner-up at an ITF event in Australia.
The teenager from Andorra also made it to the quarterfinals in the Korea Open. She also reached the quarterfinals in three WTA 125 events. At the recently-concluded WTA Montevideo Open, Jimenez Kasintseva crashed out in the first round after losing to Clara Burel.
The head-to-head scoreline currently stands at 0-0 as the two players have never crossed paths as yet.
Prediction: Tatjana Maria to win in three sets.
