Experienced fellow Belgians, Yanina Wickmayer and Alison Van Uytvanck lock horns in the round of 32 of the WTA Andorra Open.
Yanina Wickmayer
The 33-year-old made her comeback this year and has produced some decent results, especially in the doubles circuit. She has made only one ITF singles final this year. It came at the ITF event in Israel in May, when Wickmayer lost to Priscilla Hon.
Wickmayer teamed up with Kristina Mladenovic at the Korea Open and defeated top seeds Asia Muhammad and Sabrina Santamaria to clinch the doubles title. This was her first title since 2016. Prior to the Andorra Open, Wickmayer played the 25k ITF Petange event and lost in the quarterfinals against Celine Naef.
Alison Van Uytvanck
The second seed will be playing her first match since her second-round exit against Clara Burel in the US Open. Van Uytvanck has bagged a couple of titles this season in Great Britain and Gaiba, Italy, so far. She also made it to the quarterfinals at the Libema Open but top seed Aryna Sabalenka ended her run.
Currently ranked 55, Van Uytvanck will be hoping to break into the top 50 with a strong showing at the WTA Andorra Open. She has the potential to go the distance.
Head-to-Head and Prediction
Yanina Wickmayer and Alison Van Uytvanck have a 1-1 head-to-head record against each other so far. Their most recent meeting was at the qualifiers of the Western & Southern Open in 2014. Wickmayer defeated Van Uytvanck in a close three-set affair.
Prediction: Alison Van Uytvanck to win in three sets.
