Zhang Shuai

Two-time Grand Slam champion in doubles, Zhang Shuai won her last match in September before coming to Andorra. In the round of 32, she managed to end her losing streak with a dominating performance against Nina Stojanovic. The Chinese veteran picked up a win in straight sets 6-1, 6-4.

Shuai won 29 out of 50 points on Stojanovic’s serves. Stojanovic did put up a fight in the second set and came back to level terms after losing two games on the trot on two occasions. However, after Stojanovic leveled the score at 4-4, the experienced Shuai managed to take the next two games to secure victory.

Sophie Chang

World No. 60, Sophie Chang, also picked up a win in straight sets in her first match. The American youngster defeated the Dutch veteran Bibiane Schoofs 6-3, 7-5.

Chang had a win percentage of 75 on the first serve and won a total of 81 points. She committed 7 double faults and that is something that she will want to reduce, going ahead in the competition. A fierce competitor like Shuai will require no second invitation so Chang will have to be at her best to give the veteran a run for her money.
