Two in-form players, Alycia Parks and Marketa Vondrousova lock horns in the quarterfinals of the WTA Angers Arena Loire Open on Friday.
A fan of Serena Williams, the promising Alycia Parks has been quite impressive in her last few tournaments. Currently, on a 7-match winning streak, Parks will hope to continue her winning momentum as she edges closer to a second straight triumph at a WTA 125 event.
The 21-year-old began her campaign in Angers with a brilliant victory against top seed Zhang Shuai. The hard-hitting American finished the match in straight sets 6-2, 6-3 to sail into the round of 16. Jaqueline Cristian was next in line to be outclassed by Parks. The talented youngster won the match 6-4, 6-4 to progress to the quarterfinals. Parks has already hit 27 aces in two matches so far.
Interestingly, Vondrousova is also on a 7-match winning streak. The youngster from the Czech Republic has also won 7 matches in a row now.
Vondrousova faced Belgian veteran Yanina Wickmayer in the first round. After comprehensively winning the first set, the 23-year-old had to fight hard to finish the match in the second set. The match eventually ended 6-1, 7-6 (7-5) in favor of Vondrousova. She squared off against seventh seed Viktoriya Tomova in the round of 16. Vondrousova made light work of her opponent en route to a 6-2, 6-2 win.
The head-to-head scoreline currently stands at 0-0 as this will be the first meeting between the two players.
